L.A. City Council passes ordinance to streamline affordable housing

The Los Angeles City Council voted to permanently adopt a housing‑streamlining ordinance designed to accelerate approvals for affordable apartment developments.
The program, which originated as an executive directive, has already reduced review timelines from several months to an average of only a few weeks.

Hundreds of projects representing tens of thousands of future affordable units are now in the pipeline, although construction starts have been slower to materialize.
For landlords and landowners, faster approvals can increase competition for developable land and may lift land values in targeted zones.
